Activities

As envisaged by Swami Vivekananda, the guiding principles for bringing up the boys include a blending of western science with eastern culture.

From 5 AM when the boys wake up till their bed time at 10 PM the boys go about in a well regulated set of activities.

Besides their regular upkeep such as bathing and washing clothes, the routine consists of food, study, religion classes, prayer, garden work, play, etc.,

Dining Hall

Food: The Home provides food to the growing boys 4 times a day with two nutritious meals, a substantial breakfast and snacks in the evening. Both in the morning and night flavoured milk (Complan/Boost) is also given.

Computer Class

Education: The Gurukula system of education is adopted for the betterment of educational needs as well as for guiding and moulding the character of the inmates by close monitoring and timely advice. As a result, their performance in the public examinations has uniformly been good. Besides to keep pace with the advancement in Science & Technology, education in Computers/Information Technology, is being given gradually to the boys from the very beginning i.e. from the joining the Home.

Garden Work
Garden & Garden work : The manual works of the Home, like cleaning the premises, serving food, washing the halls, garden work are all carried out by the boys themselves.

Evening play is not neglected

Games

Prayer Hall

As food and play are for the body, good thoughts & behaviour for the mind/intelligence so is the prayer for the soul.

The presiding Deity in the Prayer Hall is Devi Saraswathi, the Goddess of learning. She sits on a white Lotus denoting Purity. She holds in her hands a book, a Veena for music and a string of beads for prayer and meditation. The small photo of Sri Ramakrishna in the picture was the one brought by Swami Ramakrishnanandaji himself.

Twice in a day, both in the early morning and in the evening the boys attend religious classes besides prayer. Boys are taught to respect all religions and are well trained in the basic tenets.

They invariably express, on later years, the protection & the opportunity given by the Providence in their early life.

Extra curricular activities:

The boys are also encouraged to participate in inter school games, essay and elocution competitions.

The Home looks for latent talents in the ward and encourages them to develop to their full potential in music, drama etc.
